Last night’s New Years countdown party at Bürkliplatz was an absolute blast; I can still hear people setting off fireworks in the city. And yes, I took pictures. And yes, I’ll post them all as soon as I can. How odd to begin the new year by making plans to remember the last.

Speaking of plans, several New Years resolutions that immediately spring to mind include:

  • Bake more bread
  • Brew more beer
  • Perform more magic
  • Oh, the tortures we subject ourselves to in the neverending pursuit for happiness.

Only three more days left in Europe, and then it’s back to the land of the rising sun. For those of you who are interested, although there’ll be no お節料理 (osechi-ryōri) this year, 雑煮 (ozōni) is definitely on the menu this morning…or afternoon, or whenever I get out of bed.

Happy New Year, everyone! Here’s wishing all of you the very best in 2011.

    Prost! Zum Wohl!

Once again back in Zurich after a gluttonous week in glorious Italy. Cities wined and dined in include (in order of wined and dined in): Milan, Verona, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Genoa, and Gavi.

I’ve taken copious notes and countless photographs and will post everything as soon as I can. But today’s the last day of the year and there’s still so much to be done, like preparing myself for tonight’s New Years party – featuring gyōza and fondue.

Yes, my stomach has been warned. And yes, my stomach is still – but only barely – on speaking terms with me. Oh well, I suppose that’s what New Years resolutions are for.

    2010…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…!

I’m back in Zurich after having spent a day and night in Munich, Germany. The weather’s been a continual variation of rain and sleet and snow, but I’m surprised how comfortable -1°C feels.

Highlights to the land of beer and plenty included dinner at the world famous Hofbräuhaus am Platzl and visit to Bavaria’s Neuschwanstein Castle. I’ve scores of pictures to edit and post, but until I find a USB Mini-B 5pin cable (I naturally left mine back in Japan), you’ll have to wait until next year to see any of them.

Which reminds me: it’ll be Christmas Eve soon. No immediate plans except to make as much merry as I possibly can. Which also reminds me: CHEERS! to my belter uncle-in-law, who’s now generously taking care of Kafka and Eska while I’m away – I couldn’t be here without you!

So until the next, let us toast to the final days of 2010!

    Prost! Zum Wohl!
