Well, it’s Monday morning and I’m still alive; listening to the pitter patter of rain as I recall details from yesterday’s two stellar beer events. The first was Nakameguro Taproom’s “Barley Wine Beer Style Showcase”, which featured a total of eight barley wine beers – four Ganko Oyaji (2008-2011) from Baird Beer, and four from the following guest breweries: Green Flash, Iwate Kura, Stone, and Swan Lake.
The beers ranged from average to amazing, I was particularly taken by the Ganko Oyaji 2008 and Iwate Kura’s Barley Wine, fermented with wine yeast. And hats off to Chef Ishikawa-san, who did an excellent job of creating a menu that both complimented and enhanced the variety of flavours and aromas presented. I couldn’t make Saturday’s English seminar, so I went to Sunday’s in Japanese.
The second, not two hours later, was Advanced Brewing’s Advanced Homebrew Meeting, where a lively crowd of wonderful people – most fellow homebrewers, others beer fans – mixed and mingled while serving and being served food and beers. I had a fantastic time meeting some new people, as well as finally face-to-facing a few Facebook friends.
It was especially gratifying getting swept up in homebrewing geekosity – if you were there, you’ll know what I mean – a special thanks to Aizawa-san for putting it together. I’ll definitely make the meetings a regular gig.
